Douglas fir

  • A beautiful taper from tip to base

Turkish

Noble Fir

  • One of the most popular trees for Christmas
  • Layered, sturdy branches
  • Great for hanging ornaments
  • Long-keep ability
  • Medium length soft needles
  • Deep green to blue-green color
  • Mild scent
More details: This tree’s unique qualities make it an excellent choice for the holidays. Needles twisted upward so lower surface of branches are exposed.

Grand Fir

  • Cross between the Noble Fir and Douglas fir
  • Flat needles
  • Semi layered branches
  • Top of needles are deep, waxy dark green
  • Underside of needles are silver blue
  • Strong sweet spice scent
More details: This tree is not as layered and open as the Noble nor as dense as the Douglas. The branches are somewhat layered and allow for both heavy ornaments in the interior of the tree and lighter ornaments on the ends of the branches. The top of the needle is a deep, waxy dark green, while the underside has more of a silver blue color and the contrasting colors gives the tree a very elegant look.

Blue Spruce

  • Dull blueish gray to silvery blue
  • Some trees are more distinctly blueish-white or silver-white
More details: Colorado Blue Spruce needles are 1-1 1/2 inches long on lower branches but somewhat shorter on upper branches. They are 4-sided and have a very sharp point on the end. When crushed the needles emit a resinous odor.

Fraser

  • Popular for its form and needle retention
  • Uniformly pyramid-shaped tree
  • Strong branches that turn upward slightly
  • Compact appearance
  • Dark blue-green color
  • Pleasant scent
More details: Needles are flattened, dark-green with a medial groove on the upper side and two broad silvery-white bands on the lower surface. They are 1/2 to one inch long. On lower branches, needles are two-ranked (occurring in two opposite rows). On upper twigs, needles tend to curl upward forming a more “U-shaped” appearance.

Shasta

  • Stiff, sturdy layered branches
  • Easy to hang ornaments
  • Medium length soft needles
  • Needles twist upward, exposing lower surface
  • Deep-green to blue-green color
  • Little Scent
More details: The Shasta is a close relative of the Noble Fir and just like the Noble Fir, it makes an excellent Christmas tree.
